P51D MUSTANG

RIDGE RUNNER PHOT

General Specifications

The P51-D has been designed as an exact scale representation, including panel lines. Over 20,000 rivets, 400+ Phillips head screws, and 100+ slotted head screws have been molded into the Grey gel-coat surface of the fuselage, horizontal surfaces and one piece scale laminar wing with reflex curve at the rear.

The P51-D has a carbon fiber fuselage and horizontal flying surface, along with a carbon fiber wing. The fuselage comes to the modeler complete with all bulk heads and firewall installed. The firewall is drilled to accept the DA 50 Engine with extension and single bolt hub. The elevators are of solid balsa, and need to be shaped by the builder. The rudder parts need to be assembled and covered.

The wing comes complete with only the wing tips and gear to install prior to cutting loose the pre-hinged ailerons and flaps. The wing features a full length aluminum spar and the landing gear plates are installed in the wing. The landing gear plates are riveted to the wing spar, then bedded in epoxy and wrapped in Kevlar. Servo mounting boxes are already installed inside the wing. The wing and landing gear mounting system are the strongest in the industry. They say a picture is worth a thousand words!

Retracts are installed by the modeler in the landing gear plates which have been fabricated in the wing during construction. Four 4-40 tapped holes and attaching the gear doors to the landing gear struts is all that is required by the modeler. The sequencing valve, door cylinders, gear door hardware, main gear, wheels, tail wheel, and all plumbing come with the model.

The recommended engine for the P51-D is a Modified DA 50 coupled with a Slimline Muffler. This exhaust system exits through the bottom of the cowl. It is a Pitts style muffler. Cooling for the DA Engine is provided by intake air through the front scoop and directly over the cylinder head, through a trough in the fuselage,  exiting out the radiator door. There is approximately four times as much exit opening area as there is frontal opening.

Each P51-D kit comes with the following:
